David Alexander - Managing Director, DAART Solutions
David is a chartered accountant with extensive experience of internal audit gained from over thirty-five years in executive assurance or consulting roles within a range of major organisations.
David’s first head of audit role was at Midland Bank/HSBC, where he also subsequently helped launch their UK private banking proposition. He then went on to become Global Head of Internal Audit for three large financial services groups - NatWest Wealth Management (including Coutts Group) (team of 60), Benfield Group (team of 8) and Catlin Group (team of 12). David’s experience of internal audit and working with audit committees has been broadened by a series of interim head of internal audit roles for well-known companies such as Premier Foods, Kleinwort Benson Private Bank, Hyperion Group and Henderson Global Investors. This combination has meant that David has gained internal audit leadership experience across the banking, insurance and investment management sectors. He had also previously led PwC’s internal audit advisory team in a number of financial services co-sourcing and quality assessment assignments.
David now acts mainly as a mentor and consultant on various aspects of assurance, including external quality assessments (EQAs) of internal audit functions and advice to boards and audit committees on governance and regulatory issues. He has carried out around 60 EQAs over the past 10 years with particular focus on the specialty insurance market and on challenger banks.
David is an experienced trainer and presenter on many topical aspects of internal audit, such as integrated assurance, regulation and the relationship with audit committees and boards. He regularly delivers training to Chief Audit Executives and non-executive directors.
