Harness your voice to achieve results that matter

We use our voices every day. It orders your first coffee of the day, tells jokes, supports people when they are most at need, makes lifelong commitments to people and raises children as well of course manages and converses with clients and stakeholders to fulfil your role as an internal auditor. But, for something we use so frequently and for something that is so key to the success and fulfilment of our lives, just how often do we actively think about the human voice and choose how we want to use it? And does it matter?

Research shows us that you can be as brilliant at your job as you like, but unless you are an effective communicator then your credibility and effectiveness will be vastly diminished. There is a real correlation between how people use their voice and their popularity and credibility. Behavioural consultants Science Of People conducted research that showed a difference between Ted Talks with the most views and those with fewer. They noticed that speakers of the most popular Ted Talks used 30.5% more vocal variety than those with fewer views. Other research conducted gave a survey group voice clips and asked an open question around their response to it. The results showed that the quality of the speaker’s voice mattered twice as much as the content, with 23% of surveyed listeners commenting on the speaker’s quality of voice and only 11% commenting on content. Whilst both those pieces of research highlight just how important our voice is, it also goes hand in hand with what we say. This course will enhance your understanding of the instrument of the human voice and how to use it, as well as enable you to consider what language you choose to employ and why it might help congruently communicate your messages.
